《寶可夢Let’s Go皮卡丘／伊布》並非任天堂承諾在NS推出的正統《寶可夢》新作，但概念相當有趣，也能重燃《寶可夢Go》手遊玩家的興奮，同時利用既有IP的品牌價值推出全新作品。正統續作要等到2019年下半年才會推出。

開發寶可夢系列遊戲的GAME FREAK共同創辦人增田順一說：「2016年《寶可夢GO》推出帶來全球熱潮後，為寶可夢世界帶來了數百萬個新玩家。」

「對許多人來說，《寶可夢GO》是他們第一次體驗寶可夢這個品牌，所以我們打造了這兩款新作，讓他們能夠進入我們核心的RPG系列，同時也給老粉絲一種玩寶可夢遊戲的新方式。」

《寶可夢Let’s Go皮卡丘／伊布》不像正統系列作能跟野生寶可夢戰鬥，但玩家之間可以對戰。

根據影片，這款遊戲採用紙娃娃系統，你可以幫伊布或皮卡丘換上水手服等不同裝扮。影片也暗示，你可能會遇到一隻特別的寶可夢。

任天堂也宣布Switch和手遊可免費下載《Pokemon Quest》（暫譯：寶可夢探險隊）遊戲，裡面的寶可夢都變成四四方方，玩家可培育牠們、帶牠們探險。因為寶可夢都變成方塊狀，可以堆疊在一起玩耍。手機版6月底開放下載，支援繁體中文。
